Artes Mundi recognises artists at a crucial stage in their careers, at the point where they are emerging onto a wider global stage.

Two internationally respected selectors, Ivo Mesquita and Deepak Ananth, choose eight artists from around the globe for Artes Mundi 2, to create a diverse and thought-provoking exhibition in both medium and content.

The shortlist included two female artists and six male artists, whose work reflects the broad theme of the human form, human condition, and humanity, drawing on fundamental life processes such as memory, exile, history, identity and displacement; trans-national issues that confirm the Artes Mundi Prize as a worldwide event.
