Arriving at a single Artes Mundi Prize recipient is a process that involves several groups of people at various stages of the competition:
- Curators, directors of cultural institutions and museums, directors of commercial galleries and significant artists are invited to nominate
- Two Selectors determine a shortlist of up to ten artists from across the globe
- The overall recipient of the £40,000 Artes Mundi Prize is selected from the shortlist of artists by a panel of five eminent Judges. They consider the artists’ work over the last 5-8 years, looking at previous works and exhibitions as well as the Artes Mundi Exhibition at the National Museum Cardiff.
